Last week were the races associated with the Anmerican Birkebeiner
cross country ski race. For a change I got to spend the 4 days in
Hayward, WI with both my boys. We had more than a little fun, even
though my eldest lost his Blackberry (which was found and is in the
process of being returned by a Good Samaritan).

My favorite picture of the entire week was this one:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../IMG_2852a.jpg

Happy kid on skis, what could be better.

My eldest (and I) skied the short 12K race on Saturday. He did really
well (12th out of 269). I didn't.

Your son has a "Million Dollar" smile in the first picture.
Thanks for sharing.

Skating or classic?

I like skating. It's fast. There are a couple of good trails near my
Stanley cabin and I get out every day, conditions permitting. Watching
the XC skiing in the Olympics was interesting but dispiriting. They
skate my usual distance (about 9 km) in less than half the time I do.
Even the biathlon competitors leave me in the dust, including the shooting.

I have a suggestion for a new Winter Olympics event: redneck biathlon.
It's like regular biathlon, but with snow machines and machine guns. :-)
