Default Sometimes I wonder...

Sometimes I wonder if we aren't bamboozling ourselves with into thinking
higher price stuff is really better. Oh, sure I know that quite often you
pay for quality. Take th Shimano Curado lines thta have been discontinued.
They were great and they cost a little more than other reels. Now they
come out wiht "new" models and jack up the price? Bah humbug.

I have a very nice St Croix Avid medium moderate crankbait rod. It retails
for around $175. I think suggested is $180. It fishes well for my style of
cranking and has jsut the right amount of sensitivity and give to hook and
play fish. (Remember last year I was complaining about all the crank fish I
was losing?) I have been looking at its cheaper younger brother in the St
Croix Premier line. Same speed & action. I have visited it in the store
several times over the last couple weeks. Today I picked it and and played
with it. I flexed it on the floor. Mounted a reel on it and felt its
balance. I decided I liked it, Then I picked up another new Avid off the
shelf and did the same thing. I swear I could not tell the difference. I
bought it.

When I got it home I slapped on of my Curados on it, spooled it up with
line, and tied on a floating jerk bait. Out to the pool I went. Dang. I
still can't tell the difference. Can't wait to get out on the water and try
it side by side with my other one.

Bob you are killing me with this post. Lost a curado I had mounted on a
compre rod about a week or so ago in the susquehanna river here in PA. Had
that shimana curado reel for about 15 years (was an old red one) and never
had a problem with it. The rod holder on the other hand...
