Default Uh-oh...(Tom, sit down while reading...)

So anyways, the Yuengling talk had me wondering about the availability
in the area stores. I happened to be in Mobile yesterday, and on the
way home, I stopped at a Winn-Dixie "Marketplace" grocery to pick a few
things, so looked for it in what appeared to be a fairly well-stocked
beer and wine department. And even given the location on the outskirts
of Mobile, it was about as well-stocked as many grocery-type stores
anywhere. Didn't see it, so I asked a clerk. At first, he said he'd
never heard of it, so I spelled it.

"O-O-O-H...you mean 'ya-a-n-a-la-a-hn'...shore, we got it...it's over in
the 'Premium Imports' section..." Not sure if the above gives a
accurate understanding of his pronunciation, but suffice to say, if he'd
have ordered it as such in Philly, he would have had to spell it, too...

This can't possibly lead to anything remotely good, I thought. "Er,
'premium imports?" says I.

"A'course...wheyer else y'all'd thank we'd put it?" says he.

"Well, it's from Pennsyl..." and before I could get to "vania," it hit
me as to why, in about as south Alabama as you can get without a boat or
at least 4-wheel drive, it might be considered an "import."
"Nevermind...," says I, realizing that Winn-Dixie wouldn't have a
"Carpetbagger" or "Scurrilous Yahnkeh" section...

So over to "Premium Imports" I wander...and, er, shore 'nuff, right
'twixt the Sam Adams and Shiner is the Lager, the Light Lager, and the
Black and Tan...at a mere $6.99 a six-pack...

And FWIW, the bottle label and carrier indicates a Pottsville bottling,
so ???

And also FWIW, I'm no beer snob, but it tasted fresh, and given the
shelving situation - down to two six-packs of Lager with room for about
20, and similar for the BnT and Light - I'd guess that it sold at least
reasonably quickly at that location. Based on that scant evidence, I'd
say it would be selling at a greater rate in Mobile proper, but again,
???

TC,
R
