There are at most two dozen or so regular posters. Who knows how many
lurkers or occasional posters? Well, now I have a greatest-lower-bound
approximation for this.

So far, almost 80 people have viewed my two videos on YouTube (79 for
the heron and 77 for the salmon). I suspect all but a small handful came
to them from ROFF. YouTube is deluged with videos. Most of them get very
little attention, including ones far better than mine.

We can safely assume that there are about 80 ROFF readers with
high-bandwidth Internet connections.

I'm proposing an experiment to get better data. Click on one or the
other of the YouTube videos and post a comment, identifying yourself as
being from ROFF. You don't even have to watch them. I don't care. Just
say "ROFF" or whatever else you want in the comments. You can even
insult me if it makes you feel good. :-)

The standard Usenet approximation is 10:1 total readers to
regular posters. So if your two dozen regular posters is
accurate the best guess would be about 240 total readers.

Uh oh, not again. Your "experiments" tend to generate more
heat than data. What was it, hauling loads the rod ? ;-)

Actually, Ken, that experiment threw cold water on the fire because it
settled the argument once and for all. :-)

Screw it.

actually, i think you are way short on your "regulars" count. i would
put it closer to 40-50.

check out a two week posting period and see what you think.

Judging from many of the replies, I'd say a lot less than the number who
look at the squiggly lines and pretty colors on the
compuMicroWindowsTVthingy...or the iFruit, as the case may be...

I agree. What's more, there are also quite a few irregulars. And I sure
would like to know how that "standard Usenet approximation" of 10 readers to
each poster was derived.

who, in any case, thinks the real reason for this thread.....and its
antecedent.....is just about as funny as anything can be.

It's a guesstimate that works for most newsgroups in the Big 8.
I really don't know how it was derived but if you Google up
usenet arbitron readership you'll get more info than you want
to read.

I don't want more information than I want to read. How's about you just
summarize it for all of us.

Wolfgang
