Gerry So far as fly tying goes, there are commercial farms that have been breeding birds optimized for fly tying purposes for decades, and their bottom of the line stuff will probably be better than the best of what your birds will put out. So, I'd say you'd be wasting your time. -- Scott Reverse name to reply |

Just wonding what chicken pelts are worth these days, snipped for brevity Gerry Why don't you find out? Open a PayPal account. Take digital pictures of your pelts. Post them on eBay. See how much money people bid and send you. That will tell you what your pelts are worth now. Good luck! John |

A.K. Best once lamented genetic hackle. He complained that they're too
straight and consistend thoughout the barb. What he missed about the old stuff was that they were thicker at the base of the barb and created the illusion of more body, without having to add extraneous dubbing to the hook. So, if your own hackle isn't as "perfect" as the genetic stuff, I wouldn't sweat it. There's probably someone who is going to want it. Besides, not all hackle is going to be for size 20 dry flies. Just plug the hackle as being for what you know they would be good for. You do tie your own flies, right? --Dave "J G M D" wrote in message .. .
