Landlocked coho are called kokanee, and they travel up the streams that feed

If this is Seneca Lake as in one of the Finger Lakes of New York then I would think this is a Landocked Salmon which is a Landlocked form of the Atlantic Salmon. |

I'm not positive but I think you may be Right. The only Atlantic I get to see are farmed fish and they have the spots on the Face. Good job if your right! |

You are correct about the where and the what. There are no kokanee or coho in the finger lakes. Once I was in teh tug hill area, and a friend caught a strange looking salmonid that tuned out to be a kokanee. I thought it was a landlocked atlantic because it was silvery. Pete |

Because of the spots I would guess that It is not a Coho (Silver) Salmon. It is definitely a landlocked (Atlantic) salmon. A fat one too. What was she eating, Peter? I've only killed one fish on the Rapid and it was a small (16 inch) landlock that was badly hooked and bleeding. Joanne and I had it for breakfast and it too was cooked on a grill. Very delicious. Dave I actually tossed the guts before thiking of examining the contents. Mostly coldwater fish around here eat Alewives and to a much lesser extent, smelt. Pete |
