Default TR- Two More Days to Go

Wisconsin's inland trout season ends at midnight Tuesday. Was today my
last day of fishing this year? Maybe. I'll probably try to get out
either tomorrow or Tuesday for a couple hours before work. But if not
I did get to spend a little time today on the River. Lots of BWOs but
not that many risers. Caught fish, all small, on Pass Lakes, Griffiths
Gnats and small soft hackles but not on BWO imitations. The lack of a
hard freeze meant there wasn't much floating debris in the river yet.
Even the alders still had all their leaves.

Only Fish Porn for the day. I was hoping for a big male in full
flame-on mode. T'wasn't to be.

I saw these things go over. At first I thought they were Canadas but
their honks didn't sound right. The calls were higher pitched and more
abrupt than Canada Geese. I'm guessing brant.

With the fishing only so-so I did a lot of leaf peeping. The maples
along the River a very vibrant this year.

It was an o.k. day. I was a little frustrated by my rod choice, an 8'
3wt.. The water was low and clear and I found myself wanting to throw
longer casts. Add to that the fact that I was casting tandem rigs a
good part of the day and I found myself wishing for my 9' 4wt. or even
the Legend Ultra 5wt. cannon. But then again Frustration is the buddy
I always fish with. See ya next Spring , Pal.

I'll miss the River. Its a place where I can escape my job, the
election and my bills. Until cross country skiing starts in a couple
months I'm going to be at a loss for what to do. It would be nice to
be able to choose an activity and say "I'm going to be passionate
about that now." But that's not the way it works.
