Justin
You posted this in another thread - just after the end of the Southern Classic.... quoting..... You like that hey?? I call it a "Secret Weapon Rattle Trap". The cool thing is I found that if I attach the blade on the front like that; the bait doesn't lose any action or vibration. But, instead adds action, and flash. Worked well for me too! Caught a 4 1/2lb LM with it. Had a hard time getting my bait back, after it swallowed it hole. Caught a lot of fish with it. But, towards the end of the week; the fish weren't hitting moving baits much. At least for me. Put that tip in the old tackle box, I'm sure you'll catch em' with it. Too bad I let the Secret out. Hey, Joe maybe you should put that on the site. Show everyone what else you can do with a Secret Weapon! Justin end quote..... Could you please explain further? Thanks Jim |

Sure thing Jim.
Here is a little secret I came up with, to add action, flash and better fish catch ability. OK. First I use Secret Weapon Lures spinnerbaits/buzzbaits that have interchangeable blades. These blades do not use swivels, and clip on and off very quickly. Thus it is crucial to use these blades for the best results. Take a SWL willowleaf blade, #3 or #3 1/2 on a 1/2oz Rattle Trap; (bigger or smaller size depending on other size Rattle Trap used) attach the blade to the front split ring (just above the hook, leave hook attached). When this is done, the blade will spin freely and towards the back of the bait. The big thing here is by having it attached to the front, (you don't loose any action or vibration from the rattle trap, and don't get short strikes). I know you can buy Rattle Traps with the blade on swivels attached to the back, but if you notice them in the water; you lose action, most vibration, and get short strikes! The reason I say use a SWL blade instead of a conventional blade; is SWL blades spin much more freely, one piece design, and you can quickly change blade colors to conpensate for weather and water conditions. I caught a 4 1/2lb LM that just inhaled the bait. When they would not seem to hit without the blade. I have caught several other fish too, but haven't caught any bigger ones yet. http://www.midtennclassic.org/2006images.htm (The white Rattle Trap, second row down) PLEASE let me know, if you fish this and do good with it. Would be very nice if everyone let me know how you do! -Justin Hires Pro Staff: www.SecretWeaponLures.com www.Allterraintackle.com www.Scenttec.com Director: www.USABassin.com MGF Rep: www.SFVU.com |

Jim,
I have tried only a few other cranks. Seems the Rattle Trap design works the best, but try other baits out. You might find others that will work good too. -Justin |
