That's great stuff, I read it here from someone who suggested it.
I applied Gink to just the body of the fly and very little of it too, even
put some on the tippet.

wanted to thank whoever suggested it.

I hope not, did I say something wrong?
But I know I should watch what I say...don't want the big bad wolf after me.

A can of worms, that.

To get the slightest of tastes (and without having to disenterre it all
here), go to roff on Google groups,

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.o....fly?lnk=gschg

and search on HWMNBN.

From the deepest bowels of the archives:

"I'll take this one as an uninterested bystander...

See the 'Albolene revisited' thread for more info. G*nk is a well
known fly
floatant made by a man who used to infect this newsgroup. A worse
businessman there never was. He would come here and insult and harass
people endlessly. Many people here decided to never correspond with
this
individual or use his products - he is now usually called HWNMNBM or
HWMNBN
(he whose name must not be mentioned, he who must not be named). One
enterprising regular set up a server called g*inkst*nks.org (which
seems to
be offline at the moment?)."
************************************************** **********************************

I withheld that name of the above poster, though their name is public
record.

No need to panic Wolfgang, nothing against you or anybody for that matter,
but I could see now that some here had personal issues with Gehrke. I
didn't know the history of Gink Floatant except for the fact that it works.

Just in the nick of time. Panic was imminent.

Lots of people had personal issues with George Gehrke. In this regard he
was no different from many another. In light of later developments, it
turned out that some of those issues were legitimate, while others were
manufactured by their owners. Once again, nothing unusual.

As for his products.......mixed reviews. I don't recall whether or not I
ever used any of them myself. Common sense suggests that their popularity
(which, evidently, continues to this day) is a testimony to their efficacy.

I started using gink before I knew George Gherke, as it was the best of all
the floatants I tried, I continued to use it after Gherke moved to my town,
and I got to know him and his boys (met his wife a few times, but never
socialized), I still continued to use it even after I started to get free
samples of all the latest and greatest floatants in the mail.

I still don't know if I buy the Abolene Hand Cream business, as I was in a
department store once, and the version on the counter didn't look quite like
Gink, didn't smell like it (it had a fragrance, Gink does not), and didn't
feel like it, but YMMV.

I still use it today, but I haven't had to buy a bottle in over 10 years,
and probably won't have to for some time.

And say what you will about George, one thing he was, was entertaining.

And honestly, what he was like in ROFF, was not one bit different from
himself in person.

Gink, Muslin, silicone this and that all waste of money I generally
use a small bottle of camp fuel (aka naptha) and parafin wax. The wax
dissolves in the fuel and when applied to a fly, the fuel evaporates
leaving the wax thinly deposited on the fly. You can also use a few drops
to help start a fire course I don't smoke either LOL. One dip will keep
your fly floating all day, at least until a salmon rises and pulls it
under. But then I don't mind having to dry it off after the fight is over
