Default New St Croix rods?

Hi,
Anybody get to check out the new 2008 St Croix rods yet? What exactly
if anything is "new" about them. I had heard about re-desinged handles
did this happen?
Thanks
Ray

Hmmm Dont know if that would be of use on a spinning rod for my use. Is
that mostly for weight saving?

Weight saving is questionable. Weigh a cork handle and then weigh the
pieces they use for a split grip, I'm sure you'll find out it's not that
much.

When I started using split grips on the rods I built, it was because of the
way I noticed many of my clients casting. Most of them used a baseball bat
type grip, with their hands close together.

I'd explain that if they moved their hands apart, and used kind of a "Push
Pull" motion, they'd get better distance with less effort. They'd do that
and be amazed at the distance they were getting on a cast, but shortly
thereafter, would have their hands together and making shorter casts.

So years ago, I built a prototype rod with a split grip and found that if
you kept both hands together on the rod, it felt strange and your hand
automatically went down the handle to the butt end grip.

Trying it out on clients, they were placing their hands where they were
supposed to, getting longer casts and it didn't interfere with working the
lure or fighting a fish.

It also looks distinctive and eye catching, so it's both cool looking and
functional.

Avid series is now SC4 graphite according to the description at
BassPro.com

Looks more and more like a ST Croix rod will be my next one.

It looks like they went with a split cork butt section on the Legend
Tournament rods, and one person told me they went to a skeleton handle (reel
seat), but i have not been able to confirm that.

No, but I'll ask Dave since he is sponsored by them. I'ld realy like to see
a flipping stick with a skeleton handle myself. Tica made one like that, but
its been impossible for me to find somebody who stocks them, and the exact
model I had before has been discontinued.
