Kevin asks:
Can anyone tell me how to make one? I did a search but could not find anything. well, there must be a zillion ways to do so, and I will assume you want a dry fly. Here is a start: Hook--#16-18 standard dry fly Thread--black or dark brown Tail--dark dun hackle fibers Body--darkish red/brown stripped hackle quill Hackle--dark dun, dyed over grizzley is very good you can add a wing out of a suitable dark grey material(hen hackle tips, for example) but the fish won't much care. A useful alternative is: Hook, Thread the Same Tail--split grey fibers hackle or fibetts Body--reddish brown fine fur Wing--compara dun style deer hair, dyed medium grey. Good luck! Tom |
