What is the best way to attract minnows for bait. I have a throw net, and
that works pretty well for catching them in water less than 5 feet deep when you know they are there, but that isn't always the case, and of course if they are running through the weeds or brush it doesn't work at all. I just bought a couple cage type minnow traps. How can you attract them to minnow traps so you can catch them more consistantly? In the past I never had any really great luck with minnow traps. What baits do you use for them? Mostly around here threadfin shad is the predominant bait fish followed by red shiners, and small sunfish and tilapia. -- Public Fishing & Boating Forums Fishing & Boating Link Index www.YumaBassMan.com |

I must agree. Saltine Crackers work. That must be why they are putting salt
on a lot of the fishing soft plastic baits these days. I know that the new Bass Pro Shops Squirmin Squirts have salt on them and they help me catch more crappie. So if the salt works on crappie then it should work on minnow also. " hillbilly3302" wrote in message ... Go to Wal-Mart and in the pet section you can purchase Koi food. It works
wonders for most. If you are in a location where you can toss a little every day the school of minnows will become quite prolific. ken @ Kauai "Bob La Londe" wrote in message ... But I never used it to bait a trap. I just would put it in the water and watch them gather. Salty stuff is good. Fresh water fish love salty stuff. Hmm. Powerbait? Try some of whatever. Be in a position where you can watch the trap. See how many come to what bait. -- rbc:vixen,Minnow Goddess,Willow Watcher, and all that sort of thing. Often taunted by trout. Bob,
Around here (St. Louis) wire traps catch almost nothing. A big improvement is to use glass traps, or (much cheaper) you can make one out of those big clear acrylic jars that pretzels come in at Sam's Club. A high degree of transparency seems to be the key. Anyone serious about wanting to trap minnows wants the original Orvis glass
minnow trap. It will cost you over 50 bucks delivered (see http://www.vmisales.com/glassminnowtrap/), but it is a lifetime investment that is worth every penney you pay for it... it really works! Anyone who actually buys one can email me for complete instructions on how to use & care for it. I treasure mine. -- Bob Rickard (AKA Dr. Spinnerbait) www.secretweaponlures.com --------------------------=x O'))) "bill allemann" wrote in message m...
