Hi Bones,
Excellent website troutflies.com. I need help with mine: guysflies.com...no flies yet. G though I would like seeing you purchase 1800 bugs it's not really necessary :-) The list is a guide, granted a rather large one. Pick ones that you like...people are coming from all over the place and some don't like Goddard Caddis but do like Elk Hair style Caddis, some prefer Stimulators over Bullet Heads and visa versa. It's a "wine list" of patterns, you decide what varietals you like :-) Keep in mind that you will need some of each of the patterns that will represent; Caddis, Stoneflies, Mays, Attractors and some terrestrials. Two to three patterns of each in maybe three sizes would be about 60 to 100 bugs. You will spend more, in orders of magnitude, on gas :-) If you or anyone else has a question or six, drop me a note. snipped If you or anyone else has a question or six, drop me a note. Or ask Harry to bring his mobile shop and buy when you get there as needed. Harry has to spend a lot of time with his SO, but *she* is always up for him making some money. Nice to hear from you Warren! I've been tying flies for the Madison. Nice to hear from you, too! Glad to hear you have been tying flies for the clave; I may need to borrow some this year. g I wish I could report that I have been fishing and tying a ton, but life has kept me busier than I care to be right now. RW's advice about "planning now for your future" finally seemed to have taken root..... :-| Drop me an email or get ahold of me on the bulltin board at www.flyanglersonline.com if you need anything. -- Warren troutbum_mt (insert the symbol for at) yahoo dot com Clave Information: http://www.geocities.com/troutbum_mt...nConclave.html |

![]() Warren wrote: wrote... I checked the TroutFlies.com web page and I think that the logic of "getting what you pay for" is sound. My panic question is, I roughly counted almost 100 fly patterns on the list for the "Western Clave 2005". Let's see, 100 patterns times 3 sizes times 6 each = 1800 flies. I guess I won't be able to work much between now and then. Seriously, is there a more reasonable (pared down) list? Thanks in advance. Buy/tie the most important and basics and then buy/tie whatever you don't have when you get here. Caddis, stones, pheasant tails, zug bugs, princes, hare's ears, etc etc are essential. Blue spotted ass caddis emergers in size 19 you can probably do without. ;-) -- Warren email me using troutbum_mt(insert at symbol)yahoo.com Clave Information: http://www.geocities.com/troutbum_mt...nConclave.html Oh pushaw! I just tied 4 dozen Blue Spotted Ass Caddis emergers. Actually 1 dozen BSAC emergers, 1 dozen BSAC duns, 1 dozen BSAC spinners, and 1 nymph stage. ;-) I appreciate you keeping me in line. I will look again at Troutflies.com to add to my flybox. |

Gene,
You'll REALLY need the BSAC cripple! Sizes 4 to 20 in brown, tan, light olive, and mottled. Seriously, though, buy anything you don't tie from Harry at routflies.com - flies at the shops in Montana are nice but Harry's are nicer and far less expensive. bruce h And don't forget the Purina Caddis. |

I read somewhere in this thread that the Maryland contingent plans to stay at Rainbow Ranch Lodge. http://www.rainbowranch.com/ Excellent choice, in my not so humble opinion. I've stayed there before and it's comfortable. There's an attached restaurant and I think it's the best food in the valley. It is a good little drive away from the Clave Central campsite.
