Default out to the eclipse

Lunar Eclipse tonight for those of you with clear skies. We get totality,
can't speak for you guys in more northerly latitudes. Complete at around
8:30 PM.

Considering the amount of howling I've seen cross my monitor today, the full
moon factor is in full effect.

Ah, that explains David Snedeker's post. It's going to rain here.

I've stepped out to look several times in the last couple of hours. At
totality (or what looked like if from here, anyway) it had a decidedly
orange cast to it.....something like looking at the setting sun through
smoke, though much fainter, of course. Sort of a translunar sunset. Made
me wonder what the view from up there back toward here might be like.

Maybe we should have a Loonie clave some day.

It was really good here in Massachusetts. I've been out walking for the
past hour and I stopped at a neighbor's house to take a peek through his
telescope. As the shadow was lifting I could actually watch the light
advancing across the surface features. Nice clear cold night too.
Beautiful viewing conditions.

IIRC the orange cast is from the suns corona, which extends beyond the disk of
the earth when viewed from the moon. At least thats what it looked like last
time I was there.

A very nice eclipse. I've only seen one better, back in my early teen
years.

If your adolesence was anything like mine, your opinion may have been
flavored by what you were doing beneath that moon!

Sorry. I was a very dull good girl until age 18 or 19. Even then I
was only a little bit wild.
