Does anyone have a suggestion for catching bass in clear water? I have
been to this old rock quarry for many years and see tons of bass and have not found any lure or bait they will strike. Also does anyone know of any good fishing ponds or lakes around Anson or Union county North Carolina? Thanks |

I have been to this old rock quarry for many years and see tons of bass and have not found any lure or bait they will strike. Also does anyone know of any good fishing ponds or lakes around Anson or Union county North Carolina? Thanks There are many different lures and methods that will trigger a strike from clearwater bass. The trick is to realize what mood they're in and give them what they want. First of all, what is the primary forage for these bass? Is it shiner minnows, chubs, bluegills, yellow perch, crawfish? Use lures that imitate their primary forage first of all. While I don't subscribe to the theory that line visibility can turn off a fish, some do. You can use lighter pound test line in a clear mono or fluorocarbon is you think that will help. I've found that finesse lures like 4" Senko style stick baits in natural colors work well, especially wacky rigged. Hook one on and simply let it fall. If the line doesn't jump, twitch or begin moving off in another direction, and the line is totally slack, indicating the lure has reached bottom, then I'll give the rod a pop, jerking the lure off the bottom and let it fall again. I'll do this three or four times, and if no fish are caught, I'll cast to a different likely looking fish holding spot. Another favored clear water bait for me, especially if I know the bass are eating minnows and other small fish is a soft plastic jerk bait. I've done very well on clear water lakes and rivers with jerk shads in watermelon green and pearl white. If the forage base is crawfish, then a Texas Rigged soft plastic craw or tube jig can be a deadly lure. Again, natural colors seem to work best. Don't overlook dropshotting as a tactic to finesse clear water bass. If that doesn't work, or the fish seen active, then a reaction lure will allow you to cover a lot of water in a hurry and pick off the active fish. Rattletrap type lures (again natural colors) will draw strikes, as will suspending minnow imitating crankbaits. Probably my favorite clear water reaction lure is a Secret Weapon spinnerbait, bleeding shad in color with two willow leaf chrome blades. So you see, you have a lot of choices, it's just a matter of listening to the fish and letting them tell you what they want. I'm sure others will chime in with other choices. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

I have the solution to catching these bass, but if you can see the bass, chances are high he can see you, and he is watching you, instead of the lure. I use my Wiggle rig, and nail these bass, but I locate them then back off where I can't see them, then cast beyond them and bring it to them, and just work the lure there until I hit the right action that makes them strike it -- SpecTastic Wiggle Rig, Fishing lure remote control See lure video you won't believe http://ezknot.com/videos.html |

My first thought if all my regular stuff failed would be a drop shot, and
you might be surprised at what colors work. Sure naturals like watermelon seed might do the trick, but don't be afraid to try blue, black, and yes... hot pink. Bob La Londe www.YumaBassMan.com |

MY 1st thought would be to night fish it. Use a Jitterbug on top or a Tiny
Torpedo, or pull a Plow Jockey thru very slowly with a rattle or attractant. Daytime, use baits that resemble natural colors and as someone else stated, their primary forage. Make long cast and keep your movement to a minimum. Other than that, it's up to the fish whether they want to bite that day or not. Good Luck! Doug "Phone Man" wrote in message ... After all you are the one that said they are not the same thing. LOL. I have never seen the conditions where the drop shot even got close to the Wiggle rig in catching fish, when fished side by side. They are very different, the drop shot rig can not put equal vibrations into a lure. Thus the action on the lure is not natural. The drop shot rig is very good at catching fish, no doubt about that, at certain times, it just limits your lure control, it gives you more than other bottom rigs, that's for sure, but the Wiggle rig takes it a huge step forward. I can totally mimic the action of drop shotting with the Wiggle rig, if I want to, but no one with a drop shot rig can mimic the actions possible with the Wiggle rig. The Wiggle rig gives the fisherman total control of his lures movements, from just a tiny amount,(even down to the heart beat of the fisherman being transfered to the lure) to the panic wiggle of an injured bait fish. But basically the reason is this I can't do this with a drop shot rig, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLZXB0E5LsQ neither can anyone else -- SpecTastic Wiggle Rig, Fishing lure remote control See lure video you won't believe http://ezknot.com/videos.html |

Have you tried nightcrawlers with no weight at all just hook and worm?
Just hooking through oh an inch or so of the fat end let the rest dangle. I do this way all the time. The clarity is I can throw out 40' or so and see the worm fall 8-10' under water is a tint greenish. I shore fish and doing this way Ive caught bass only 2' from shore, at times, they dont seem to care that Im there they want the worm. Ray |
