Sounds about right for us average folk. This past fall I was in decent
jogging shape and my top sustainable pace was about 6-6.5mph, a little
less than half a top marathoner. World class athletes are something
else altogether, and really quite amazing to me, rather than
dispiriting.

Running 26.2 10 minute miles consecutively puts you over the
finish line of a marathon at 4:22. That's good enough to beat
Oprah (4:29:15) but not P. Diddy (4:14:54).

I thought the video clip was pretty funny.

I'm glad - I thought it was pretty funny, too. And for the record, I had
nothing to do with its production, distribution, etc., nor do I know anything
about it other than the info on youtube about it - the link was coincidentally
sent to me with a variety of similar videos a couple of weeks ago "Olympic
humor." I deleted the email with links, but there were 2-3 more "humorous"
biathlon videos - I'm sure a more thorough search on youtube than I did would
locate them.

Biathlon looks like a cool sport to me.

It is different, that's for sure. I don't know where I heard it, but I recently
heard that it is the most "drugged" event of all Olympic sports (insofar as the
number of competitors that are "on" something or a variety of somethings, "sport
legal" and otherwise - not only for "performance" in the skiing, but to keep the
heart rate down when shooting). Don't know if that is true, but it seems at
least possible.

I also like the Nordic Combined
events. Too bad that we (in the US) only get to see these sports every
four years.

There's always things like the X Games, etc. My extreme skiing days are over
(among the variety of things that contributed to various bodily injuries, but
you're right - it is a rush.

One gets used to that.....in time.

but I'm sure you're a special little

You're a liar.....and a half-wit. The only thing you're sure of is
that you'd really love to have something to say some day.

Meanwhile, yeah, there are a very few people who do think I'm
special....and that's enough.

Golly gee, HTH,

Well, we only get to see major media coverage of them (and precious
little of that compared to many other events) every four years.

Outside, it's a different story.....at least in the northern third or
so of the country.

thus demonstrating to anyone who hasn't already figured it out that
these constant tedious disclaimers are necesitated by levels of fame
and genius that would naturally lead anyone to suppose that you
absolutely MUST have a hand in their production and
dissemination.....right?

No, honestly, do you actually believe that ANYBODY gives a rat's ass
about who or what you may or may not be involved with? And do you
really believe that ANYBODY can't figure out from your presence here
that you spend your time here just like the rest of us?

And, no, you are NOT James Bond.

nor do I know anything
about it

or anything else.

Good god, you are tedious. Here's a little experiment you can try.
Stay away from Usenet until you have something to say. Let's see
whether the rest of us can live without you for an eternity or two.

Biathlon looks like a cool sport to me.

It is different, that's for sure.

Well, it's different than calligraphy or catsup......that much is
undeniable.

I don't know where I heard it, but I recently

Possible? O.k. But how much do you really know about how large a
role heart rate plays is small bore rifle shooting? The shooters I've
known were accutely aware of pulse induced motion and were amazingly
adept at timing shots to a particular point in the rhythm. But I
suppose none of them was as good as you.

I also like the Nordic Combined
events. Too bad that we (in the US) only get to see these sports every
four years.

There's always things like the X Games, etc.

Yeah, pretty much the same.....and you can get your fill of it on
Regis and Whoever or the Soaps.

My extreme skiing days are over

Hey, almost as fast as Oprah, not nearly as smart, or rich, or
influential, or admired, or thoughtful, or dynamic.....not half bad
for a pudgy white frat boy.
