Both Orvis and Sci Anglers diagree with this chart. My Battenkill is
plainly marked "HDG" WF#6" and Sci Anglers lists "HCH" as DT #7 and
"HDH" as DT #6.

....I wondered about that too George, I used the same chart as Wayne which
is why I was confused on your conversion numbers..Time will tell, but I'm
gonna look silly as hell standing up to my knees casting in the front yard.

This is pretty heady stuff for a boy who came from a small town so poor
even the local prostitute was a virgin.

Welcome to the dark side. If you need to try some lines and such, give me a
shout. I think you like the south bends, still good rods after all these
years and probably (none of my business) not so much invested that you
should be afraid of damaging them.

Absolutely. The disagreement in the various charts points out
that the conversion from letter to number is somewhat of an
approximation. IIRC, the letter system was based on diameters,
while the number system is based on weight.

Yup, and to further muddy things, the letter system
was based on diametre of *silk* lines, so any conversion
to the modern system is at *best* an approximation. :-)

From what I know of 'boo rods, there's a fair bit of
leeway as far as which line size works best for *you*.
Indeed, I've seen people disagree +/- a line wt. w.r.t.
the line *they* thought worked best. The conversion
gives you a ballpark number, but you pretty well *have*
to experiment a bit to see what really suits the rod.
