Do people really catch 10+ fish all the time?

Sometimes it's right, and sometimes it isn't...and that's why I love it
so much! But noone catches 10+ all the time, if they did, they could get
rich and famous pretty quick grin!

Maybe you need a $500 reel! J/K

NO!

I have only had a couple ten plus days in the last year out of several dozen
trips out on the water.

I think I am doing pretty good lately, with finishes in the money in 4 out
of my last six tournaments. When you consider that I didn't weigh in a
limit in any of them, and in two of those I didn't boat a fish I figure
thats pretty good.

On the occassions when I hit a really hot bite and boated a bunch of bass
they were smaller fish. My cousin and I hit a really good topwater bite in
the back of a lake back in June. We caught over 20 fish (maybe as many as
30) in about 20 minutes. We missed a lot more. Sometimes we would get two
or three hits on a single retrieve. I think between us we caught 4 or 5
keepers that day, but we had a blast.

My next good bite like that was in another side water. I was fishing by
myself and found a topwater bite going on mid morning. I caught several
largemouth a couple smallmouth and a couple striper all chasing minnows in a
lake off the river. First bite to last bite was about fifteen minutes.

I don't even want to count the days I blanked or was relieved after 8 hours
of fishing to catch one small keeper.

I zero out quite often when fishing from shore, but rarely when fishing from
a boat. By zeroing out, I mean keeper fish. When fishing from shore at
lunch, I usually manage a couple babies, but rarely catch any keepers. That
is the problem fishing from shore (limited access to good
water-structure/cover). On a boat, I make no excuses. If I blank out for
the day, no one to blame but me! I know where the fish are, I know how to
get reactionary strikes. Blank, shame on me! Yet, there are always a few
days every year where I couldn't go to the fish market and buy a fish, I
skunk so bad! (Usually in dead still water in the summer. That is the
worst sight in the world for me, to look out at the water and see it is
perfectly calm, no current). Confidence level drains to zero in a heart
beat. Something I need to really work on.

Interesting. Dead calm heat of summer doesn't bother me. I guess exactly
becasue I spent so many years fishing from the bank. The fish are in the
shade. Then its just a matter of figuring out what they will bite.

I don't know how many people over the years have told me there aren't any
fish in the local main canals. I laugh when I hear it. Fish locks and
bridges with minnows and you are guaranteed a few. Rubber worms are a close
second with tiny inline spinners and spoons working on other days. My best
time to fish for many years was in the afternoon on a hot calm summer day.
The fish may have been more active at other times of day, they in the heat
of late afternoon they are concentrated in small patches of shade.

Figuring out how to translate to fishing the river and lakes from a boat has
proven difficult for me, but I have confidence that I will. On other hand,
I did have a coupel summer tournaments where my only keepers were late in
the day by throwing topwater stick baits up under docks or dock ramps. I
just need to figure out where they are the rest of the day.

I had a 150 fish day . . . . once. And not one over 10" or under 9". Most
of the time I get 3-4 fish, but I do not always fish that hard. I have had
20 fish day (1-3#) with a guide at Lake Fork and a one bite day at Lk Fork
where I lost a big fish in the trees. Guide only landed 2. High winds, so
we had to fish where we could, not necessarily where the fish were. I fish
Oroville a lot. I get 5-10 fish days, not a lot of size, for maybe 4 hours
fishing. I also get a few fish in the Sac Delta, but nowhere what the pro's
get on the same day. They know better where the fish are. I do not believe
that someone gets 10 fish all the time. Too many tournys where only 20% or
less weigh a limit.

I totally agree! I can't stand 99% of those shows, all they do is show
'em reeling in fish. After you've seen about 100 fish being reeled in
it gets kind of old. I really like the Angler on Tour show. I think
you learn WAY more watching a pro rack his brain trying to figure out
where the fish are.

gee whizz dont we all sound like a buche of ld guys sitting around
playing checkers in the general store ys have to take the bad days
with the good ones pond fishing and lake n river fishing is totaly
different in the spring pond fishing is really good as ong as ya
dont spook the fish and if y a can catch 40 to 50 bass in a pond thats
like totally bogus here in nc a pond is not that big ya no so after a
good 6 or 8 fish the bass get leary of what enters there domain if
ya have ever seen a big ole female on the bed ya no what iam talking
bout and as far as fisherman streeeeeeeching the truth i dont
reckon there has ever been a fisherman that could pass a polygraph lol
i have been a bas fisherman for most of my 46 yrs and on ocassion i
have caught maybe 40 fish but mind you it was in a majior river that
was busting at the seems with small mouth any ways yall have a
good one buck

Yup, Sue and I got a DVR (Sat reciever with the TiVo built in) for our Direct TV Satalite from her Dad for Christmas. Now I can
record 100 hours and never miss a show (it will record two different shows at the same time) if I'm gone fishing! Doc
