Do scents (as sprayed on lures work?)

I believe scents work. Not all times and not all places, but I think they do
and I think the success of powerbaits is an expample of that. One question I
do have though. . . and I'm not sure this is anything but urban legend.
Please someone comment if they've heard of this or no of it's veractiy or
not. . ..

I read somewhere that some pros will drip significant quantites of scent
down a bank for instance and then rework the trail with lures. Sort of like
chumming I guess. Anyone ever heard of this. I've never done it but if
scents do work....seems like it might be an idea worth trying no ?
