Well I finally got everything hooked up registered and ready to go so
I thought I would go out on a local lake. Launched the boat and got the engine started pretty easily. Stayed tied to the dock while I got the Lowrance 522C up and running. It's the first time I used it on the water. Works pretty good but needs to have the levels turned down on the sonar. The GPS seems to do what a GPS is supposed to do. I worked the North shore which has a lot of pads and reeds. Mostly shallow 3' to 5'. Used several types of jigs and jig head worms along with spinner baits, twister tail tiny spinners and power worms. Not a taker. Maybe it was the huge weed cutting machine that was working the North shore also. I never did fish close to him. I worked a couple of nice coves and never got a hit. Worked to the back of one cove and found a channel going out of the back of it. Water temps on the lake were 64+ and in the cove going into the channel were 65 to 69 degrees. The coves and channel had no beds that I could see and I looked over a lot of sandy areas along shore and in the channel. The water level appears to be down about 7 feet. I cruised slow into the main center of the lake and talked to several other fishermen. Most thought the Bass and Crappies would be spawning. Only one boat with three guys had fish and that was only 2 small 1 1/2 pound Bass and 12 inch Crappie. They had been out for most of the day. The deepest part of the lake is only 8 to 12 feet and there does not appear to be any channels running through it. All in all it was a good time. I need to take the wooden deck apart cause it is starting to give up the ghost. I also know I have leaks in my live well plumbing and I want to change to a different type and shape live well. Also remembered the prop on the engine is too small and I need to change it out with my spare. Revs up real quick :{ I may go out tomorrow and try the main lake instead of the North shore. _ Dan TOASTY in Florida for now Remove the X for e-mail reply www.outdoorfrontiers.com www.SecretWeaponLures.com A proud charter member of "PETAF", People for Eating Tasty Animals and Fish!!! |
