It is hard to imagine anything more blindingly absurd. Think of it........a
bunch of grown men and women professionally trained and highly
motivated......and PAID.....to go out and break each other's ****.

Fortuantely, we are not required to imagine anything more
absurd........there's already combat WITH casualties.

And thus the end of civilization begins...

Actually, if it were to come to pass (and yes, of course, we all know it
won't), it would be more like the beginning of civilization ends.

They would do well to heed the words of the great general
Robert E. Lee:

"It is well that war is so terrible, else men would learn
to love it too much."

Lee grossly misjudged men's capacity to love.

Even worse, like many others, he underestimated menīs capacity to hate. For
no good reason.

Lee was a pretty strange guy. He's idealized in US history, but one thing he
did, in particular, presaged one of the nastiest proclivities of American
style warfare. After the battle of Fredricksburg, during which the slaughter
of green (both inexperienced and Irish) troops was particularly gruesome,
Lee brought evangelists into the rebel camps, and launched a month-long
frenetic revival, using religion to whip up hatred and demonization of
Unionists to encourage the continued killing of wounded caught between the
lines and the execution of captured Black Union soldiers. "Fredricksburg"
became a Union battle cry. I think this episode, and not the ordering of
Pickett's charge, was Lee's personal low point. But if you really want to
look at a religious fanatic in command, Stonewall Jackson is the guy.

"Fighting for peace is like humping for virginity"

Just my 2 cents.

Well, in some respects, I suppose. However, there IS a significant
difference. In the latter, even if it doesn't work (and the odds are that
it won't) everybody can still go home happy.

Wolfgang
who, recognizing a good cause, is willing to make sacrifices.........the
odds be damned!
