![]() "Jim" wrote in message ... Thanks for all the responses. I found a used Dyna King at a reasonable price, and decided to get it, based on some of the responses. (stuff snipped) That and the fact that there are lots of Travelers on ebay, but very few Dyna-King Barracudas. (other stuff snipped) Jim Ray Hi Jim, Heh . . .heh . . .you starting me thinking based on your original post. I ordered a Cam Traveler, just 'cause I wanted one set up at home and one for a travel case. I own a whole herd of tying vises, but none more than a couple hundred dollars or so . . .maybe less. My "teaching" vises were pretty much throwaways . . . after a bit of time. (India kind of versions) Ordered this Cam Renzetti on Thursday afternoon and got it yesterday, Monday .. . .retail.) I'll play with it. I don't do 500 plus dollar vises. I have a couple HMH vises that are well machined . . .but they are hardly used, anymore, my fault. Seems I used them mostly when I lived in New York state. Now , it seems I use a Danvise, a Regal, a Traveler, and occasionally the India things, and still one of the older type Thompsons, depending on who may be interested in tying, and their resources, or if I am just dealing with various hooks, with different patterns. You can go goofy dealing with all the options, but you made a decision. Have fun. BestWishes, DaveMohnsen Denver (Good luck on your adventure with the new tying vise. . . I'm not an authority on anything . . .and my experience tells me that premise is true . .. . heck . . .but fun is fun) |

Go here for a great forum on the vises you are interested in plus some
others. There's even a poll as to which vise people use. You'll enjoy it. http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=4319 On Mon, 14 Feb 2005 21:24:00 -0800, "Padishar Creel" wrote: "Jim" wrote in message ... I am considering a new vise, and would like to hear from anyone that has used both Renzetti (Traveler or Presentation) and Dyna King Barracuda vises. Unfortunately, I really don't have access to either for testing. ---------- I have tied on both, and I like the looks of the Barracuda but frankly I tie better on the Renzetti for some reason (and I don't have a clue why). It is too bad you can't try them both out. If you have a local fly fishing club nearby, I am sure you could get both brought to a meeting and give them both a workout. If I had to buy one of the other, I would go with the Renzetti because it costs less and works well, or at least, well for me. One odd thing that is idiosyncratic to me -- I prefer the screw to the cam on the vise heads and they are cheaper too! It seems to hold better, IMHO and frankly I am used to it -- (and yes I have a cam head in the drawer) which may be the only value to my post is that I am used to the Renzetti and that may be all the difference that matters. I do tie some on my NorVise and I do like it for some types of flies (Large Streamers) a little better than the Renzetti. (Of course, this may be because I bought the NorVise and I am damn well going to use it or so says the Mrs.). Chris "I certainly hope that there was something in this post of value to you" |
