thanks charles and dan...

yeah... i was plannin' on using pipes. especially since the commercial
truck racks cost up to six hundred dollars!

nothing i've found commercially will fit. basically i need to mount to
the bed rail brackets fore and aft, then extend outward an inch or two
to clear my canopy go up about 25 inches then i'll be in a position to
mount a cross pipe (with pvc tube slide over it) to the uprights.

it's a real pain in the arse... so far.

will look at junk yards this week.
