I am looking to buy a 7' or 7 1/2 foot fly rod. I have an 8, 8.5, 9,
9.5 ranging from mid-flex to fast tip. I have read extensively about
various actions available to the point it has almost become
information overload. I realize that folks have their own
preferences, and a particular action will dictate how a fly is cast.
The rod will be used primarily for small stream trout and panfish.
Advice of friends consist of full flex or mid flex. I would apprecite
hearing from those using seven footers who would be willing to share
their expertise and advice. Top of my list is the Orvis Trout Bum 7'
full flex. Orvis will also produce a 6' full flex called The Flea
which seems interesting.

Thanks,

Dick

a friend recommended a st.croix avid AF603, 6ft 3wt. and it
is now my goto rod for the very small, very brushy streams of
central NJ/ Monmouth/Ocean counties.

here's the marketing hype from st.croix:
"crafted from our premium lightweight, high-modulus SC I II graphite,
they feature versatile, moderate actions that load easily and
progressively down the blank for a smooth, powerful casting stroke. So
you get maximum "feel." And precision line control. They're also very
adept at protecting light tippets. "

if you can find a shop to try one, I would recommend it highly.

tight lines,
Rob
