Friday I fished the Gunpowder north of Baltimore (with a poor, very cold
gentleman from Alabama) in 40 degree weather, trudging through knee deep snow. Today, it reached 70 degrees. Tomorrow, it drops into the 30s with 1-3 inches of snow expected. Will the weather gods quit teasing me!!! Let Spring begin!!! Arrrgggghhhh!!! -- Frank Reid Reverse email to reply |

That's what spring is like, Frank. We keep forgetting how tricky that goddess of weather is. Sometimes she fools us by giving us a nice progression, but that's just to set us up for this kind of thing. If means that spring is really around. She's just waving all seven of her veils. At that you're lucky. We thought yesterday was spectacular at 50s on the thermometer. You'll be seen green foliage well before I will. Could be worse. We could be in da Yupper. Cyli r.bc: vixen. Minnow goddess. Speaker to squirrels. Often taunted by trout. Almost entirely harmless. http://www.visi.com/~cyli email: lid (strip the .invalid to email) |

This morning it is near 50 degrees and birds are singing, with 3-6 inches of snow this evening and a low of 11 with 50mph winds expected. I think we should all give thanks to Canada for sending their best our way. ;-) -- TL, Tim ------------------------ http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

Friday was hot, about 95F and at about dusk an ominous black cloud suddenly arose from the north, looking like something from a Stephen Speilberg movie, with the interior flashes of light and all. Within minutes, the sky was pitch black, the lighting ripped the sky open, and the thunder exploded. For the next hour, we had the absolutely most hellacious lighting storm I have ever encountered, with howling winds and crashes of lightning hitting the ground all around me. Just as the storm peaked and the lightning started to abate, I got my foul weather gear on and went out into it to see what was happening. Between 1/3 and 1/2 of all the trees on campus (and there are some LARGE trees) were down or damaged, the campus road was completely washed out, three buildings had their roofs torn off, and one particularly large tree had fallen on a colleagues house and punched a hole the size of a VW bus through the roof, ceiling and floor. Every road on campus was blocked from downed trees, and the torrential rivers where the roads used to be were almost impossible to walk on, let alone drive on. Lower campus and upper campus were isolated from each other by at least 4 downed trees and several downed bamboo stands. The storm also knocked out the power for several hours, and burned out the server and almost all the workstations on campus. Fortunately, I had the laptop at home (saw a similar storm last year fry the servers and workstations, so I learned my lesson), so I have been unable to get my internet fix until late last night when I managed to hack into someones wireless connection in the neighborhood. Look at the wild weather *I* have to put up with. These tremendous swings in day to day weather aren't all that unusual around here this time of year either, so just be thankful you are where you are right now. http://weather.cnn.com/weather/forec...p?locCode=CAVC Danl ....hunkering down to ride it out..... |
