Hope you winter has been fun! Looks like it would make some nice long
hairwing streamers for fishing places like - now this is just for
example mind - Laisälven. Spare a swatch? :-)

I look forward to seeing a few flies next time...

Vaughan,

I have been thinking! This raccoon dog might be similar with bear hair!
I am not sure yet. Maybe a subsubstitute for bear hair for Nalle Puh,
the famous dry fly from Finland. But I am sure that this will be good
for wing for streamers for trout/salmon.

Hope to get ideas.

You are living rather close to me! I hope to meat you and bring this skin
with
me for finding good solutions for this hair.

"Dang Finlanders" says my Grandpa Gosta Sigfried of Sweden let'n them dang
dogs spread around like that... Or was it John Voelker in "Trout Madness"?

Hi,

I just got a racoon dog from my neighbor who is hunting these.
I am going to test the hair for flytying. Any ideas?

This animal originates from Russia and has been spreading
wide in Finland.

Found some great photos of this creature (I've never seen one with my
own eyes):

Jarmo,

Thanks! These pictures are awesome! The one I got was dark colored but
the hair is having three colors: Root grey, the middle part light and the
tip black.

I remember these critters while growing up in Japan, very prominant in
Japanese mythology, there they are known as TANUKI with a reputation as
mischief makers.
