Default Newbie in Illinois

I live in the burbs of chicago. Last year I bought a 17' Lund Rebel as
I wanted to get into fishing and got a good deal. I am interested in
hooking up with a local group or such to learn more about the sport. I
have a friend that is big time into bass fishing but every time we go
out - him in his boat me in mine - he is so friggin' hyper about
constantly moving. Also, I really don't care about just catching bass -
sorry if this is blashemy on a bass fishing group. Any help/direction
locally would be great. I do get my Wisconsin lisence each year also.

Thanks, Rick

I am also in the burbs of Chicago and am always looking for tips and
pointers. What lakes/rivers do you take your boat too?

Rick & Sportius,
Drop me an email any time. I'm in New Lenox and a long time ago was pres
of a great local bass club. I gave it up for other priorities but love to
bass fish for fun. My wife and I hit most all the local waters and would be
happy to share with you some of the best closest and some of those within a
two or three hour drive. My email accounts are here on comcast or
(one I use as a writer).

Be good to hear from you and about you. Drop a note anytime.

Michael

Almost time to start hitting the K3 and the creeks...Already picked up a few
small crappie and a couple of decent bass at Kankakee Cut Off last weekend.

Yer makin me jealous Mark. I haven't even gotten my boat together yet,
though am picking up 8 reels from Strictly Fishin I had in for cleaning.
Let's keep in touch re how the fishin is doing. We launch out of Harborside
Marina when we are on the 3 k, the Des Plaines or Illinois.

I live across the river from Haborside (roughly), in Channahon. I'm going to
be making a trip to my place at Woodhaven Lakes next Thursday to check
things out and get the trailer opened up for the season. With the weather as
cold as it's been, I'm sure most of the fish will still be in winter
patterns, but I plan to take the fly rod out and see what I can find, if the
weather cooperates.

BTW, I have a picture of a fly rod bass on the board at Strictly Fishing
that came from one of the lakes at Woodhaven last year.

I'll add two more URL's to the list... the chicagopaddling site listed below
goes by a area map, so you can just click on a blue dot or line near where
you live, handy to find new places nearby, and the chicagofishing site goes
by lists (depends on what you find easier to use). Depth maps for a little
over 100 lakes are online and local access points for rivers showing hand
launch access and trailer launch access. Follow the instructions at the
"Print" link at the bottom of the map pages to print decent quality maps.
