It's a compromise. Thinner lines will be more severely affected by
abrasion, thicker ones will give poorer presentation. You may prefer a
bit more stretch than some of the lower diameter lines give.

I used Maxima exclusively for years, and was always very happy with it,
but line technology has moved on, and I'm not particularly well up on
the newer stuff.

Likewise, I have used Maxima 8lb exclusively for two years on all my reels
and haven't had any problems with it at all....I suppose it's down to what
kind of fishing you want to do, I more or less go out solely to catch carp,
either on the surface or legering the bottom, this line has proved to be
efficient at both, also the occasional floatfishing session has resulted in
tench, bream and even barbel....for finer match type fishing you need a much
thinner line, say 2lbs max

Hi

Like the other guys I have been using Maxima - until last year that is
when I tried the new Teklon Gold which gives double the strength for the
same thickness of line. I have to say it took a bit of getting used to
- I normally fish 4lb straight through so it was like working with 2lb
line. At first it seemed to kink quite a bit but soon settled down. I
normally fish for tench and have had no trouble landing fish to 6lbs
last year - but my best was a 17lb 8oz common. OK, so it took 20
minutes to bring him in - but what a delightful scrap and isn't that
what fishing is all about anyway?

Thought you may like to give it a try.

Good luck

Peter

Hi, I reckon 'value for money' wise Maxima really does take some beating as
it is so durable and lasts for ages.
I recently switched over to Shakespeare Targa which has a smaller diameter
and is fairly durable as well, I often use 6lb line straight thru for
stalking the margins and have landed carp to over 20 lbs without problems.
At the end of the day you only get what you pat for and there are some very
expensive high-tech lines available, but if you want value then I go for
maxima everytime.
