Thinner lines will be more severely affected by abrasion, thicker ones will give poorer presentation. You may prefer a bit more stretch than some of the lower diameter lines give. I used Maxima exclusively for years, and was always very happy with it, but line technology has moved on, and I'm not particularly well up on the newer stuff. -- Steve Walker |

![]() Hi Like the other guys I have been using Maxima - until last year that is when I tried the new Teklon Gold which gives double the strength for the same thickness of line. I have to say it took a bit of getting used to - I normally fish 4lb straight through so it was like working with 2lb line. At first it seemed to kink quite a bit but soon settled down. I normally fish for tench and have had no trouble landing fish to 6lbs last year - but my best was a 17lb 8oz common. OK, so it took 20 minutes to bring him in - but what a delightful scrap and isn't that what fishing is all about anyway? Thought you may like to give it a try. Good luck Peter In message , Keith Hampson writes what line is best for fishing straight through, is it Maxima? is this the lowest diameter compared to strength.? or are they others better, all suggestions appreciated thanks -- Peter Cliff Fisheries.co.uk |

Hi, I reckon 'value for money' wise Maxima really does take some beating as
it is so durable and lasts for ages. I recently switched over to Shakespeare Targa which has a smaller diameter and is fairly durable as well, I often use 6lb line straight thru for stalking the margins and have landed carp to over 20 lbs without problems. At the end of the day you only get what you pat for and there are some very expensive high-tech lines available, but if you want value then I go for maxima everytime.
