i have the distinct feeling that this penns clave might just be, in the
immortal phrase of the most astonishing dumbass of all time, brent
mussberger, a clave "for the ages"...

My attendance, if any at Penns will be brief. I've got to fit a week on the
Missouri plus my annual Michigan thing between the middle of May and the end
of June.

this time, I'll be using a shakespeare cane rod,
finished by a competent custom rod maker.

yfitons
wayno (well, of course, we must remember that brent isn't as bad as being
a *lawyer*, for god's sake...)

I'll bring the gloves, or are they already off?

Well, not to ruin a good "walking ten miles to school barefoot

was the $700 fly rod of its day.

Didn't think it was a story really, just a point, but it did snow an awful
lot in the Green Mountains of my youth. You didn't jump on me for the bad
grammar, or puncuation though, I feel slighted..

Some have said that using a $700 fly rod isn't obscene, but paying
$700 for a fly rod is. To which I respond, there wouldn't be any
blems for sale if somebody wasn't buying the rod at full price.

You have great point, and I bow to those kind soles...that blem matched with
a Lamson 1.5 made quite a witness to some mighty fine exploring. Never did
figure out what was wrong with it, the top piece was even run over by some
crazy *******, replaced with another, and it didn't miss a beat. Have to
say, I do love those warranties..

My mistake, it won't happen again. Being civil, I mean.

Well, that's just fine, but this apologizing on roff is *way* out of
bounds.

I had not even considered St. Croix, but can appreciate the workmanship
that must go into their blanks, as I've often drooled over their fine
spinning rods. I'll have to throw a few casts with the model you
mentioned...certainly no reason to spend more than is necessary, heck
maybe I'll be able to buy a 7 AND an 8 weight for less than what I'd
originally planned to spend on a single rod.

The only true steelhead rods I've ever used were a 9.5, and 11.5, St Croix.
Have to say they were awesome, for me anyway.

Others may disagree.

Has that ever happened?

Not yet........but I figure it's inevitable.

O.K., fearing the wrath of such a fine scholar...I think the difference in
rods for Steelhead (for me) was flexibility. Again my experience is
limited, but that's what seemed to help me get some fish to net. Those
things (the Steelies) are incredible and test every inch of tackle from end
to end. Not just any rod did it for me, I had some thick stick thing that
I could hook'em with, but, couldn't beat em. One of those basic 9.5 St.
Croix steelhead rods made a heck of a difference. I think it's important
to note that for a fish like this, the reel does make an incredible
difference, especially the drag.

Good advice...thanks for the suggestions. I've heard many good things
about the Sage XP. I will cast one before making my final decision.

I don't think you can go wrong with either the IIx or the XP.

Ken I'll keep up with this cause I think it funny.
Every manufacturer sells wholesale, every single one including Sage and
Winston.
That retail 300.00 blank is about 125.00 wholsale and the components,
epoxy, finish and thread could run 60-80 bucks. Excluding drying time
for epoxy and finish I could build a simple (sage like) fly rod in
about 4 hours start to finish, you could too, it aint rocket science.
If you can tie a fly and read a book you could do it. Its is so frickin
simple thats why I am amazed at the prices for these rods. Thats it
from here take care. Bruce

ok, this is getting down right ghostly...

For reasons other than this inane ****ing contest, probably.

I'll be there. I should be able to drink. And I'll be looking for company.

Well, you know what the Beach Boys said...the southern girls with the
way they talk might knock you out when you're down there, and the
northern girls with the way they kiss may keep you warm at night, but if
you really want some damned fine company, it's the Amish gir...um,
wait...THAT doesn't sound quite right....lessee now - de-dada-da,
de-dada-da, well, east coast girls are hip, yada-yada, southern girls
talking, yep, midwest farmers' daughters yada-yada, northern girls
kissing, check, California....oops, sorry, they didn't say anything
about Amish girls...ah, well, there's always Frank's bear...it'll be the
one sitting on a cooler, shooting away with the waterproof digital
camera...but not to worry: repeated soaking will have ruined the
circuitry...

R
