Around here the bassers treat striper like a trash fish.

The only place I have seen fishermen go by length rather than weight in
estimating fish size is among trout anglers, and in more recent years,
anglers who ply waters where a slot limit is in effect

Yep, that explains it...my background is in trout and we do have slot
limits for stripers here.

Randy, it's really no difference with that attitude among western bass
anglers than it is for "specialists" in any region.

Around here, there are muskie anglers that even if they catch a big bass or
walleye won't give it a second thought. Northern Pike, if caught are
considered trash fish and some guys I know will rip the gills out and toss
the fish back in the lake!

I was fishing with a die-hard walleye nut one day when on a deepwater rock
pile, we started catching 10 - 12 inch bluegills. I had never caught gills
that big and was really excited to be catching fish of that caliber. Billy
wanted to leave and kept whining about catching big gills until I finally
couldn't take it any longer and left, but not before carefully taking
bearings so I could find the rocks again.

It seems that there are some that unless they catch the fish they are
targeting, consider other fish trash. Me on the other hand, as long as I'm
getting my string stretched, I'm loving it. Right Moe?

Yeah guess I'm a lot like you, i'm a happy guy when the line is being
tugged, and while i'm not a big fan of trout or pickerel, they do go back in
the`water

Oh no if I catch a trout, I love the fact that I caught a fish, I just would
not really go out for trout, at least not by myself, maybe take the kids or
go with a buddy who wanted to. I like catching all fish, but preference
would have to be bass. I fished for trout for years before becoming
seriously involved with bass fishing, the two don't compare, maybe one day
I'll tie into a 5lb trout and it will change my mind, until then it's
bucketmouths for me

Same here. As long as it has scales and fins, it's all good. Ok, 4"
sunfish *do* tick me off, but everything else is good to go.

Ledbelly and I even resorted to crappie fishing a couple of weeks ago. Seems
he had a better knack for it though... or at least a better bait.
