Iv'e used them up north here in some heavy veg. I didn't like the
hook-up ratio so I quit using them.

No problem with the hook up ratio here. I have had fish bust them in open water fishing in 20 feet of water, up on the shoreline in inchs of water, over grass, deadsticking in rocks, on jig heads. I prefer using them shallow and I fish them as far away from the pads as I can get it. I love that fish rushing up to bust them from the pads
