Since Bill catches fish on some BVD type devices, I guess he deserves to
be in the top 4...

Don't you think the whole idea of a "greatest angler" is kind of silly
anyway? Kind of like asking "who was the greatest baseball player?".
Just a publicity stunt designed to stir up controversy. Also, I guess
you can only hope to be "greatest angler" if you fish for bass. But
that said, if your gonna have a short list Bill Dance should definitely
be on it.

Shane

I'ld have to kinda agree. Its a commercial gimmick to stir up some
interest. I haven't been all that interested in who is listed where on the
list as I have been in hearing people get into it and spout their opinion
about who should be where ont he list.

What is amazing to me is how long some people carry things with them. One
fellow I know thinks Roland Martin is a good fisherman, but shouldn't be on
the list at all because they met him once and didn't like him at all.

Amazing. Their opinion had very little to do with his fishing skills or
promotion of the sport. Just from a one time meeting at some event or
another.

Another funny opinion I have heard is that this or that younger (relatively)
angler should not be on the list, not because they aren't good, but because
they "Haven't paid their dues." LOL

Its pretty funny to listen to people discuss this subject not from the
results, but from the perspective of why they come to their conclusions.

I see Kevin VanDam was selected #5, that leaves Bill Dance in the top
4..Should he be in the top 4.. He hasn't fished a Tournament in a long
time and now just fishes private ponds which I can understand because

of
his TV show. but the top 4 IMO is a big stretch...I know he has caught
many bass on a certain world class (in his own mind) inventors baits

but
does he belong in the top 20?

Where does Larry Nixon rank? I would say he has earned his place in the
top 5 spot...

Larry is at #6, KVD at #5. The Remaining 4 a

Roland Martin
Denny Brauer
Bill Dance
Rick Clunn

I've met Roland & he's a great guy. The greatest bass angler ever? Roland,
hands down. He'll win hands-down.

AJH it's not a debate of the greatest tourney fisherman, its the

greatest
all-around angler. Both KVD & Hank would agree that BD belongs in the

top
5. 4 AOY? I think that's 2 more than Clunn if I'm not mistaken...

Come on Warren, Bill Dance never won a Classic, he was Angler of the
Year 3-4 times, he did win some T's.. he doesn't have the credentials
KVD has, for that matter Larry Nixon or Hank Parker have better
credentials.. But I bet he has made more money in the fishing business
than anyone...I'd rather have Bill's money that the Greatest Angler

What with his leaving the tournament circuit at a young age & fishing
mostly stocked ponds on his show I must agree that be shouldn't be in
the top 20 (maybe 20th???) Roland Martin on the other hand, could easily
be #1. His tourneys, classics & angler of the year awards are
unprecedented over the last 25 or 30 years & we can't hold his TV
notoriety or series' against him. It's at best somewhat more of a
popularity contest than it should be & there are a lot of great Bassmen
out there, but if Iaconneli or anothher Johnny come lately wins over
Roland I will be disapponted. If there's an objective winner it's Roland
Martin in my book. Good fishing & better catching, Carl
