Newsgroup,
After moving to the lower 48 several years ago I've decided to shake the dust off my flyfishig gear. I am looking for a place to fish in northern Georgia. I would prefer a stream with camping in the local area and I don't mind walking. Can anyone in this group give this misplaced Alaskan a tip? V/r Joaquin |

V/r Joaquin I'm sure one of our resident Georgians will reply, but I know there are some trout streams in north Georgia. Noontootla comes to mind, as much for its name as anything else. Check out: http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ngto/front.shtml Just stay the hell away from North Carolina - nothing up there worth the license fee. And, even worse, it's full of . . . NORTH CAROLINIANS!!! Damned people up there don't do anything except whistle "Dixie" and talk about Zeb Vance. No fly fishing worth the word - so stay away!! Bob |

Bob Bob's advice about NGTO is good, but the Noontootla isn't the place to go to shake the dust off your gear. That's tough water. The Toccoa or the Chatooga or the Chattahoochee would be better alternatives for catching fish, although none are as pretty as the Noontootla. If you live in metro Atlanta, the Hooch from below Buford dam to Morgan Falls dam is all you need. Go to Island Ford or Jones Bridge. You'll find trout AND a bikini hatch. Rest assured none of the women you will lust after attend Ga Tech. Spend a couple of hours on the website Bob listed and you'll have enough information for a good start. The hurricanes last fall knocked a lot of timber down up there, so it may be even tougher now than you remember - it certainly changed some things around anyway. -- Charlie... http://www.chocphoto.com |

I;ve been gone from Ga since 1998, but Charlie Choc a frequent contributor is still in Atlanta. Coopers Creek, The Chattooga, Noontoola, and the upper chattahoochee all come to mind as streams with some camping streamside (for the most part no facilities tho). But if you really don't mind walking into a wilderness area and primitive camping then the Jacks and Coanasauga rivers in the Blue Ridge WMA are for you. Just get used to something much smaller than those Alaskan brutes you cut your teeth on. |

Newsgroup,
Spent some time at the aforementioned web sites and thought the Jacks River looked promising. Can anyone recommend a good place to park a vehicle. I will be coming from Savannah.
