Default Penns Clave adjourned early?

I went over to Penns this afternoon about 5 to do some fishing with
the all the Clavers before they set out for home. No one at Three
Streamer Stan's, so I went to the "Big Cabin" at Hemlock Acres, to
find it deserted.

Sorry I missed all you guys today. Was the all-day rain that led to
the early departure?

Yes. Jeff, IJ, JR, John, Tom and I all bailed this a.m. Just not looking
forward to hanging in the rain all day for a hatch that may or may not come
off because of it.

The bugs came off just fine.

Vince, sorry we missed seeing you again. The few people left were down at
Ingleby for the day. Jim, Handyman and I fished #16 bluewing olives in the
rain all afternoon (got possibly my biggest brown ever on top in the pouring
rain in a foot of crystal clear water) and the coffin flies came on like a
wall of bug meat at dusk. We said goodbye to the Handy one about 6 and
didn't see him again before we left. We stopped by his trailer this AM and
heard a loud snoring so we let him sleep and got on the road. Makella was
due to return, so he and Handyman may continue a fitfull clavelet through
Sunday.

My flight was delayed out of Chicago, and by the time I got back it was too
late to fish Friday night, and it was pouring. Called it and headed home
for much needed R&R from my vacation instead of stretching one more day out
of it. Lesson learned, don't depend on getting out of O'Hare on time on
American Airlines, the whole gate was a bunch of rolling delays.

Turned out to be a nice day so hope Mike Shaw, Bruce, and anyone else who
remained fared O.K..

On Friday after I had breakfast at the Reid (plus) cabin I tried Spring
Creek but no action, wrong raincoat and just getting wet. I went to
Hooters in State College for a beer. I then decided to try a little
more fishing so went to Penns down around the bend from the tunnel
parking lot. I hooked 2 nice ones using a BH PT. One I had on for
about 10 seconds. The second felt real heavy and tore upstream and got
off. Saturday I fished with my friends who arrived Friday night. We
caught fish but you had to work for them. Very technical. I got 2
sight casting with a gray emerger. We didn't fish on Saturday night
but went to Stan's bridge to watch the hatch. We were glad we did.
Thousands, perhaps millions of the GDs flying. There were 3 guys below
the bridge and 2 above. I saw a total of 3 fish caught from 8:20 to
9:15.

PS while waiting for my friends Rudy came by walking his dog. I
mentioned Frank Reid's offer to me to let my friends stay in the cabin.
He wasn't keen about the idea and that was just fine with me.

Terrific! I was thinking, on Friday, that this is the kind of day
that often brings out the olives.
