Hi Sandy, great TR ~ I once stayed in Inchnadamph Hotel on a geology field
trip, many years ago. Was transfixed by all those large trout, and will like
to go there again. What was yout tent ~ it looks good?

It is a Proaction Tiger Paw. It was a cheapo tent they were selling at one
of our discount stores over here in the uk. It started off at £29.95$54, I
bought mine at £24.95/$45 then when they sold the rest off at £9.99/$18 I
bought a second as a backup.

It weighs in at 2Kg and has alluminium poles. It has stood up to some
really bad weather so for the price I am very happy.

Thanks for the info sandy; I'll keep a look out for one of those tents, as I
will need something a bit lighter than my 4kg tent for my forthcoming trip
to the Lomond / Awe / Sween in early August this year. Will be doing perhaps
10 days fishing with tent and car. Pal from Spain hopes to make at least a
week of the trip (I collect him from Glasgow airport). Will be after
hillwalking, trouting and also some sea-fishing too. A friend told me that
if I was anywhere near Lomond, I might have a try at the pike there ~
"they're fine on the fly or anything" he said!

Back to the tent; I know that the trade-off is backpack weight vs tent
comfort. One extreme is the bivvy-bag, the other is a 3 man dome for just
the solitary angler. I want to get as light a tent as possible for my
backpack, yet also like some extras such as a bit of main cabin room, and a
reasonable porch area for cooking during a storm, etc...

Did a test trip to the Swale west of Richmond last few days ~ need a lighter
tent for sure.

Regards,
Michael.

They no longer keep them, and the new ones aren't up to the same standard

For that you are going to have to pay. The ones I have seen are between 2
and 4 hundred pounds, not cheap.

Sandy, I went for a Coleman Inyo2 tent in the end; the tent seems to offer
a bit more than a bivvibag affords, and packs down to under 5lbs weight,
which on paper seems ok... I'll be in the Tarbet area for about 10 days in
August. I'm planning on ranging about, taking in spinning for coalies /
mackerel in the sealochs (sound of jura area/Crinan), and also fishing for
the loch brownies, plus hillwalking too. I have Bruce Sandersons book (its
about 20 years old!) for where to fish, and so will be relying on that. Is
this book still reasonably ok for info. etc? Is Lomond from the shore a
worthwhile prospect?

Thanks for any advice.
Regards,
Mike.
