Bob La Londe http://www.YumaBassMan.com Yeah, and they list all of the usenet threads as their own, as well. I think a fair thing to do would be to email their advertisers, if they ever get any, and let them know how the site traffic is being misrepresented. Scott This is getting cooler and cooler!! If you look through the past posts We posted letting everyone on the newsgroups know that we had setup things up, but no one cared to hear it. So, when I click your "Advertising" link, and see the part that says "We have a large amount of traffic generated from our popular message boards. The chart below is for a 30-day period, as you can see we average a very high number of new posts every day that people just keep coming back for! You can benefit from this by advertising in the forums. Your ad could be displayed in over a ˝ million topics right now! And ever time a new thread is posted your ad is automatically added!", and then look at the diagram below that shows an average of about 300 posts per day to "your popular message boards" for theperiod between May 23 and Jun 21, that means that all those posts were generated through your site??? Cause if this isn't the case, you're MISREPRESENTING your site traffic to your advertisers. Correct me if I'm wrong about the new posts originating from outside your site. Hopefully, any ads tagged onto usenet posts will stay on your site. If I see ads bubbling through to usenet, I will report this to your server host. Scott |

: If you look through the past posts We posted letting everyone on the newsgroups know that we had setup things up, but no one cared to hear it. Are you talking about this? http://groups- beta.google.com/group/rec.outdoors.fishing.bass/browse_frm/thread/c3f4903 9e14de054/e02caddd58782eca?q=hookandsinker+group:*.bass&rnum =1 &hl=en#e02caddd58782eca I must have missed the part where you said you would be providing a usenet web portal without identifying it as such, and telling advertisers about it in such a way that usenet traffic appears to be attributed to your site. I don't care what sort of VALID stuff gets posted to the usenet through your site, so long as its not the kind of crap that Fishman was posting (extending you the courtesy for the moment of not assuming that you ARE Fishman, or that Fishman works for or with you in some way--This crap didn't come from a normal user, who would have to be absolutely insane to use a web portal interface to post bulk usenet messages!!). I don't even care if you claim copyright to the Bible to your advertisers. I do care if the groups I frequent get filled up by crap to the point of being useless. This is what every group would look like if other people who had the idea of profiting to a targeted group of usenet readers using a free medium actually went and implemented it. I also care that you're claiming MY usenet activity as a hook into your advertisers. Your site generated about 50 useless messages from somebody else's RSS feed (yeah, HE'S absolutely thrilled about it!!), and you haven't apologized, either to him or to other readers--claims of not being responsible for the crap posted through your site notwithstanding. You've got ****loads of nerve complaining about all the negative feedback this has generated, especially as it's raising your hits off the chart. You've also got all sorts of nerve telling me my claims can be hazardous! I've looked at your advertising description, and you're claiming that usenet posts are somehow related to traffic on your site. It's not true. There could be billions of posts, without ever having a single visitor to your site. Suggesting anything else to your advertisers is wrong. Here's some other little gems from your website's advertising link: "Hook & Sinker® provides you with your own web interface to monitor your ad campaign(s) with unbelievable detail, including Hourly Times, IP Addresses, Adviews, Origin Country, CTR, and more. Take control over your investment and see how your personalized ad campaign is working for you! Ask some of our competitors how they provide you with a real-time solution to monitor your advertising campaign and likely they will not have a clue what you are talking about. You will have your own secure sign-in to our Exclusive! Advertising Management System." No wonder why you don't have a privacy statement!! Long and the short of it is, nobody would have anything to say if crap weren't spewing from your site. Scott |

message ... SNIP Why not just tell visitors to your site what it is? A usenet portal. Your site misleads by its very design to appear like a forum. I didn't research all your advertising claims like others have, but if true then you are misleading potential clients at the very least, and possibly committing fraud. Not for me to determine. Perhaps you should ask your attorney. Now here is a suggestion for you. Add ABPF to your portal with a long retention period. Then you would be providing a service for all those usenet users who have servers that don't carry binaries. Of course that could quickly eat up your bandwidth and storage, but atleast you would truly be doing something new and useful for a few people. -- Bob La Londe www.YumaBassMan.com |
