Becky just finished reading "The Last American Man" by Elizabeth Gilbert.
The book is the story of one Eustace Conway who, after a nasty childhood or
something has become a "unique naturalist" according to the homepage of his
camp/school, Turtle Island, hidden somewhere in the hinterlands near
Triplett, roughly 10-12 miles east of Boone. Based on her reading, she
thinks it might be an interesting place to take some of her students. Any
of youse mugs know anything about this guy or his program?

if you remember the location of my cabin on elk creek road between
triplett and darby (east of boone), turtle island was just up the road
from it. i think it's about a thousand acres now. google eustace conway
& turtle island and you'll get a web site with info about his
eco-friendly programs. he does a lot of work with kids - excellent
reputation. eustace is world famous...been on the tonight show, written
up in national magazines, etc. his brother judson runs a fly shop and
guide service in boone. they are the real thing...

I recall hearing about that cabin, but I was only in that area once (during
Uncle Wally's 2000 Spring Fling) and never got to see it......didn't even
know where it was.....but have just found the road on a map. Looks like a
nice neighborhood.

Speaking of cabins, have you gotten much beyond creating a relatively flat
spot on that cliff you bought over near Robbinsville yet?

Thanks, Jeff (and Mark and Peter). I just called Becky and talked her
through the process of locating and reading messages on ROFF. She asks me
to convey her thanks to all.

Well, I guess we can't talk about *her* any longer.

Herself replies that what with her profession and the company she keeps in
the off hours, she already spends enough of her time riding herd on unruly
juveniles.

She says she is going to open up a big can of whup-ass on you next time you
meet in Yellowstone.....and she suggests that your employer might soon be
getting an email from somebody.....not her.....but SOMEBODY!

Wolfgang
who, having been caught in the middle of this sort of affair before, wishes
you two would just talk to each other without his unwilling shuttle
diplomacy.
