Fishing with pellets ?

hello all,

After being away from the sport for a while I hope you can help me with the
following questions regarding the use of pellets ?

After talking to a chap fishing at my local pond with some pellets who was
catching well on them I decided to give them a go .

What a nightmare !! I invested in some 6mm sinking pellets to use on hook
and loose feed close in .

I followed the instructions from my local tackle shop ,which was to put some
in a shallow tray then cover with boiling water for 10 mins till soaked /
expanded then sieve and run cold water over them and put in the fridge till
the next day when I was going to use them .

All seemed well started loose feeding with them though they seemed a bit
soft ,then tried to get them on the hook well what a blinking nightmare
would they stay
on ! tried kamasan size16 and 14 wide gape to no avail flew off with every
cast ( this was underarm!! ) in the end started making a paste out of them
and moulding them onto the hook which was nearly as bad .

So if anyone can help with with my pellet problem I would be very grateful

how do you use pellet bands (dry,wet ?)
what are expander pellets and how are they different
can you advise on a good site for someone who knows nothing about last 5
years
developments ie method feeder etc ?

Hi Glenn, I use expander pellets in matches and for pleasure fishing without
problems. How? well it is what I do to them.

See if you can get hold of a pellet pump. This sucks all of the air out of
the pellet.

My recipe is as follows:

One handful of Ringers 6 or 4 mm pellets.
One sachet of Gelatine
½ a bottle of food Flavouring. Strawberry seems best, I have used Almond and
various other flavours including Aniseed Powder.

Method
Empty the sachet of Gelatine into the bottom of the pellet pump container
and add the flavouring and pour in hot water up to half way up the
container. Stir well until the gelatine has dissolved. Put in the pellets.
Put the lid on and pump up. You will see the air coming out of the pellets.
This forces the gelatine and flavouring in. Leave for about half and hour.
The pellets will have swollen up. Open the pump and strain off the liquid.
Give them a very light rinse and put into a container like a plastic bag or
small plastic pot to cool. Put into a refrigerator overnight.

You now have flavoured jelly pellets that stay on the hook and attract fish.
Any left over pellets can be frozen and then thawed for you next trip.

If you can't get a pellet pump, put the pellets into a bowl to soften first
and when they are soft just squeeze them gently to remove the air and put
them into your flavoured gelatine liquid. This is messy and not quite as
good, so get a pump.

These can be loose fed as well. They seem to work better over a bed of hemp
which will hold the fish in the swim for you.

Of course if you use this method in a match and beat me, I will have to kill
you

If I can use the pellets without them flying everywhere that would be a
start!!! , I think you will be safe at the matches just at the moment !!!

Have you any recommendations on a good pellet pump and the prices ?

You can pick them up all over the place try your local tackle shop. They
should be less than a tenner.
The idea is not to cast them too hard. The are magic on a pole. You can hair
rig them as well
