A couple of fishing questions.

Well now done two trips on my revised fishing and caught on both occasions

First question, does anyone know of a tripod bank stick, something that can
be used when it is impossible to stick a good old metal rod in the ground. I

Would a rod pod not be better? I use one for general coarse fishing when
on concrete pegs and it works well.

A slightly harder question, well harder for me, my local lake has a good
head of carp that are catchable. I do not want to go down the dedicated carp
route but would like to set up a cheap and cheerful carp rod and real outfit
that can double for pike in the winter. We are talking about a maximum of
mid 20lb carp and pike at best and I do not want to buy to powerful a rod so
I get to feel the fish fight if it is not that big. I have no idea on the
best rod and especially the test curve to get. Any ideas on a spec for a rod
that fits please. Plus any advice on other things to look for as the carp
world seems well over complicated compared to good old tiddler bashing.

I'd go for a heavy feeder rod or 1.5lb test Avon for light carping, not
really suitable for pike though as it won't cope with casting heavy
deads well. If you want a rod for both then I'd recommend a 2.5lb test
carp rod, Ron Thompson do some good cheap ones. Carping doesn't have to
be complicated, many of the specialist rigs are for unusual situations
or very wary fish on heavily fished waters, a simple running or
semi-fixed ledger rig will catch plenty of fish.

No real need for heavy leads as the lake I will be mainly fishing is not
that large, 40 to 50 yards should hit any spot on the lake from one point or
another. It was just a matter of playing the fish.

I looked at rod pods but it is a bit more ironwork than I need to have to
carry. The rules of the lake is one rod only anyway.

I will do some looking for the Ron Thompson rods, I have seen them but only
really just started looking closely at the idea. Mainly due to a couple a
good sized carp nudging my tench float out of the way last time.
