River Rother tactics

Hi,

I am fishing a match in a couple of weeks on the River Rother near Rye in
East Sussex, I would be grateful for any knowledge or advice on the venue.
Specific ideas about baits, fish, depths, flows and tactics (pole, feeder,
stick, waggler) would be good.

Ed which bit of the Rother? The Rother holds all sorts of species, and when
I fish the Clive Vale run sections I use pellets on a pole, maggot
sweetcorn, choppie and worm. Of course now I have said that, it won't work
for you. I wouldn't expect too much in the way of flow as it is a managed
river. As such it really depends on how much rain we have had when you get
there. Depths vary from swim to swim, peg to peg. If you are going to use a
pole, I would suggest .15 line to 8' and then you can adjust it when you get
there. You may like to try strawberry jelly pellets if it is warm, fished
hard on the bottom over a bed of hemp. Fish the margins and middle line and
far bank.

Who are you fishing against and when exactly. I may put in an appearance if
it's an open.

I recommend ragworm or bacon rind on large hooks - or better still no
hooks - for that comp on the Rother...

Ian which team did you fish for? Didn't catch much on either the bacon rind
or the ragworm, and the hooks were much to big for those little Bleak.

Enjoyed the venue though, although it was bloody hot and I got a fair bit
burned.

As usual our team came last, Oh well, there's always next year on the
Weaver.
