![]() http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/05/op...05herbert.html I started out, after Bush vs Gore, asking my ****ed off Democrat friends to "just give the guy a chance" as I spoke of Bush Jr. Five years later, I hate the man, the only president of my lifetime that I can say that about. But, I've had trouble putting my finger on "why" ... it was more than "issues" and lies, but what? This quote ( emphasis mine ) from the linked editorial says something that been flitting around my head, not fully formed, for 5 years. " The chorus of criticism from nearly all quarters demanding that the president do something tells me that THE NATION AS A WHOLE IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THIS ADMINISTRATION. " We're being dragged down by our "leadership" .... ...... This country has done many things in the last 5 years that I am deeply ashamed of. It has been drug down to the level of an arrogant, but shamefully ignorant, Texas rich kid and his pals. All of them could be cartoons of "the ugly American" without even being exaggerated. I think I've finally put my finger on it, it's not because I'm "a liberal" as I'm pretty conservative on many issues, and it's not partisan, I've voted for members of both major parties over the years. Actually, it's pretty simple, I hate Bush Jr. so much because he is making us all look so much worse than we really are. |

Go ahead, mark these words, if this turns into a debate on racism, both the real problems and any solutions to the mess go out the window. Tom |

Not necessarily, but being published in the Times does lend more credence to "old Bob" than ranting on roff lends to Forty. Go ahead, mark these words, if this turns into a debate on racism, both the real problems and any solutions to the mess go out the window. "This mess" cannot be honestly debated in an artificially imposed racial vacuum. -- Ken Fortenberry |
