Life's too short and there's enough crap out there without the need for me to go looking for/creating ill feeling here as well (imho). re. starting off spinning, ditto - I used to take hundreds of trout (quite literally - 117 on one occasion!)on a little black and gold abu toby. I created a fly based upon it, but Brian (the fishery owner)wouldn't let me use it :- http://www.harelaw.net/johnstobyfly.htm . I'm not sure it would have casted too well anyway. By the way, what's a clave?
