Mayfly

I would appreciate your recommendations on the "Best" Mayfly book by Name &
author. Something equal or better than Gary LaFontaine book Caddisflies. Oh
yes & I would appreciate it if its still in print & available to purchase.

I think it had been Hatches by Caucci and Nastassi (Hatches II now), which
is good. I don't have it but I've heard Mayflies by Knopp and Cormier is
even better, and has been compared to LaFontaine's Caddisflies more than
once.

I think it had been Hatches by Caucci and Nastassi (Hatches II now), which
is good. I don't have it but I've heard Mayflies by Knopp and Cormier is
even better, and has been compared to LaFontaine's Caddisflies more than
once.


I second the recommendation for Knopp and Cormier's "Mayflies - An
Angler's Study of Trout Water Ephemeroptera". It is an excellent book,
well illustrated, and entomologically correct.

It was published in 1997, and shoudl still be available.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for reminding me about "Mayfies", the book. I have it . . just
haven't looked at it for a bit. Pulled it out again. I compare it to Gary
LaFontaine's "Caddisflies"
quite favorably for a reference.
For new persons to flyfishing, ya might go into information overload with
the above two books. I think Gary made his a little more personable.
Also I had, as jeff mentioned, a "Hatches II" thing me thinks. Just
looked. Can't find it.
Uhh . . .used to "loan" out books a lot. Heh . . .heh . . .sometimes they
then just "disappeared". It seems that "Hatches II" was better than the
original, for my use, in my feeble mind.
Hmm . ..for the tiers . . .I don't play much anymore in fly tying books but
the best I've seen is "TheFly Tier's Benchside Reference" by Leeson and
Schollmeyer, which is basically about techniques.
Gotta go fishin' soon.
