Jeff,
That date sounds OK for me. I will plan to go to the US to do some flyfishing this summer. I guess I would have to look at my finances and see whether I can do both Montana and Penns, otherwise I think that I will try for Montana (after all, even Tom L. thought that would be the wisest choice.). How soon would I have to reserve a room and where? Could I have someone help me with this? I also need to know costs and other things like where to fly and if someone might be able to give me a lift from that airport. It's a bit difficult for me to plan all, since I'm not at home but in Japan, but I will work on it. /Roger |

Roger,
Here's where the smart folks stay: http://www.slideinn.com/ Many of us have camped right up the road at the Cabin Creek campground, which is between Hebgen and Quake lakes. Hope to see you there. bruce h |

OK then... i guess everyone should plan on July 8-15 for the weeklong
get together in Montana on the Madison (west of West Yellowstone and Hebgen Lake). I suggest making reservations as early as possible. The Slide Inn requires a 50% deposit, which is refundable up to 30 days in advance of the reservation date. It has cooking and non-cooking cabins... nightly rates range from $80 for a single or couple (as in one bed couple), $90 for to noncooking double, and 100 for cooking/double. All are non-smoking, no pets. There are several other places in the area, but it all fills up fast. I know warren and some others have extra tents or camping stuff, and camping is around $11-15 a night as I recall. Yellowstone has some decent "cabins" with double beds in all of its major hotel areas, and the cost is very reasonable. Those are booked through some agent - Xterra, I think...but you can find info by googling Yellowstone lodging. So, I guess it's on... jeff angler wrote: Jeff, That date sounds OK for me. Jeff,
I sent a booking request for one of those rooms (Slide Inn) at a nightly rate of US$80. The response was that there was only one room left, so I've told them that I want that room. I might consider bringing a friend from Sweden, if his wife lets him go fishing for a week. Anyway, I now need to start investigating flights. /Roger |

Atlanta to West Yellowstone is around $485 round trip on Delta with a stop in Salt Lake. Raleigh/Durham to West Yellowstone is $531 stopping in Atlanta and Salt Lake on the way out and Salt Lake and Cincinnati on the way back, FYI. Assuming I can afford it I'll drive and stay 2 or 3 weeks in July, then I come back in September for another 2 weeks. -- Charlie... http://www.chocphoto.com |

Just have to be careful about using Alamo out of the Jackson Hole airport :^) Just checking out feasibility for me right now (if Roger and Co. are coming from Sweden I can't see how I have an excuse not too), but using the miles I would have to be there from the 8th, through the 18th. Not sure I can be away from home that long, but for $449 it may be a mute point. Can save those miles for a more exotic location. As you know I flew into Jackson last time and it worked out well. Would like to fly into Bozeman, but I was seeing similar rates that you did. I could pay for the airfare, rental, and hotel, flying into Jackson vs. flying into Bozeman. Anyone know how the snowpack is so far this year? Any extremely early predictions for water levels? Mike |
