Jeff, I sent a booking request for one of those rooms (Slide Inn) at a nightly rate of US$80. The response was that there was only one room left, so I've told them that I want that room. I might consider bringing a friend from Sweden, if his wife lets him go fishing for a week. Anyway, I now need to start investigating flights. /Roger good work roger...booking a room at the slide inn often becomes a sport in itself. it's a great location and kelly galloup is among the best of the u.s. flyfishermen in my opinion...i think you'll like it there. you're really going to enjoy the western u.s. streams, especially if the madison salmon fly hatch occurs during your stay. let us know if you need anything. as at penns, you won't have any problem finding folks willing to provide transportation or to show you their favorite spots. the western guys are some of the best around. jeff |

Atlanta to West Yellowstone is around $485 round trip on Delta with a stop in Salt Lake. Raleigh/Durham to West Yellowstone is $531 stopping in Atlanta and Salt Lake on the way out and Salt Lake and Cincinnati on the way back, FYI. Assuming I can afford it I'll drive and stay 2 or 3 weeks in July, then I come back in September for another 2 weeks. -- Charlie... http://www.chocphoto.com |

Just have to be careful about using Alamo out of the Jackson Hole airport :^) Just checking out feasibility for me right now (if Roger and Co. are coming from Sweden I can't see how I have an excuse not too), but using the miles I would have to be there from the 8th, through the 18th. Not sure I can be away from home that long, but for $449 it may be a mute point. Can save those miles for a more exotic location. As you know I flew into Jackson last time and it worked out well. Would like to fly into Bozeman, but I was seeing similar rates that you did. I could pay for the airfare, rental, and hotel, flying into Jackson vs. flying into Bozeman. Anyone know how the snowpack is so far this year? Any extremely early predictions for water levels? Mike |

Here's a slightly technical site that will give you more data than you could possibly want about western US snowpack... http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/snow/ Best way to guage snowpack is to use this function: http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/cgibin/westsnow.pl and click on the current month. The resulting map will show snowpack in terms of "percent of normal." You can see from the map that we're looking at a VERY slim year down here in the Southwest but that MT/WY is looking wet. Hope this helps, Bevin |

Central Idaho is looking pretty good. You Southwest guys got most of "our" precipitation last year, so we're due. :-) BTW, here's a webcam for Stanley, ID: http://www.ruralnetwork.net/~dpinney/ -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

Guys,
Any suggestion on what airport I should go for? I would prefer to be able to hitch a ride with someone. Time is way to precious to spend trying to navigate my way in a rental car when there are people who know their way around (and when I could be fishing instead ;-)). Saw Jeff's comment "....booking a room at the slide inn often becomes a sport" and you know what, after I sent my credit card info to them through fax I haven't heard anything (even emailed them to hear if they got the fax, but no response). Anyway, they said earlier that the room was reserved in my name, so I guess it should be allright (even though they haven't charged me yet). Back to the airport issue, I'd like to be able to start looking at air fares and destinations but need a little help here. What airports are there to consider? Anyone close by such an airport that I can hitch a ride or should I consider trying my luck in a rental car? /Roger |
