Him having a heart attack, even a 'minor' one is not very funny, IMO.

Agreed, but getting shot in the face at 30 yards with a shotgun isn't very
funny either, at first glance.

I think it is a very political thing. When I'm making fun of the
situation, introspection tells be that I'm satirizing based on my view of
how much I feel an individual life means to the VP. If this guy weren't a
crony and a donor, it would be very much like the proverbial dead whore
the
senator wakes up next to in the hotel room-- something to hide and
suppress, not a matter for public contrition.

Agreed. Maybe my initial reply to this thread was wrong-- hell, I laughed my
ass off (so to speak....) watching Stewart last night. Michelle and I both
had tears rolling down our cheeks when He did that "unbelieeeeeeeeevably
easy" line.

-But-

I think there's a rather fine line between satire of an incident when it
appears all involved are OK, and satire when it appears someone may not be
OK. That, I suppose, was what should have been in my initial response.

Despite my satire, the nonofficial White House line seems to be to poke
fun
at the situation, with McClellan and Jeb Bush making cracks whenever they
see anyone wearing orange. It's as inappropriate a response, or lack
thereof, as I've seen from Washington. Not even "The Vice President
regrets the incident and the role he played in it."

All of which I completely agree with.

In all the brouhaha surrounding this hunting accident I
don't believe I've read a single word on roff about Cheney's
choice of shotgun. He was using a Perazzi. Now say what you
will about Cheney, fact is he has great taste in shotguns.

i shot in excess of 50 thousand targets during my decade of competition
shotgunning, and was privileged to have access to every brand of high
quality shotgun on the planet. perazzi was clearly my favorite.

Sorry if I sounded defensive, Dan-- it wasn't my intention at all. I
certainly agree that it is distasteful to make fun of a persons injury.

Pirate walked into a bar and the bartender said, "Hey, I haven't seen
you in a while. What happened? You look terrible."

"What do you mean?" said the pirate, "I feel fine."

"What about the wooden leg? You didn't have that before."

"Well, we were in a battle and I got hit with a cannon ball, but I'm
fine now"

"Well, ok, but what about that hook? "What happened to your hand?"

"We were in another battle. I boarded a ship and got into a sword fight.
My hand was cut off. I got fitted with a hook. I'm fine, really."

"What about that eye patch?"

"Oh, one day we were at sea and a flock of birds flew over.
I looked up and one of them **** in my eye."

"You're kidding," said the bartender, "you couldn't lose an eye just
from some bird ****."

"It was my first day with the hook."

That's sad news.

I saw this at the end of the piece:

"Cheney's office said Monday night in a statement that Cheney had a $125
non-resident hunting license and has sent a $7 check to cover the cost
of the stamp. "The staff asked for all permits needed, but was not
informed of the $7 upland game bird stamp requirement," the statement
said."

I called it -- they're blaming it on a staff puke.

Um, first, if he got it in November, it should have been $300, not $125,
so I'd question the quote's accuracy. IAC, if you'd bother to look at
things with even a hint of objectivity, you'd see that even if the part
about the staff asking, etc. is accurate, there's nothing in the least
bit wrong with them doing so, and more importantly, it's quite possible
that they were misinformed as were many others due to a pretty extensive
reg overhaul/change. This is among the reasons why the TPWD isn't
issuing cites to hunters yet.

OTOH, if he had a $120 non-res spring turkey license, he didn't need the
upland stamp - see my reply on that, and if so, it's sure going to be
interesting to see how you and others deal with the crow...and given
your stances, we might have an answer as to how hard it would be to eat
a rather large batch of birds...

Oh well......at least we can all indulge in a huge collective sigh of relief
and sleep soundly, secure in the knowledge that niggling little
administrative details like foreign policy, the economy, social security,
conducting a couple of wars, international diplomacy and homeland security
are a lot less complex and intractable than Texas hunting regulations.

Otherwise......well, I'm sure you can see where we might (theoretically,
anyway) develop a couple of problems that could make a boy kinda nervous.

does anybody know whether they gulp let vice presidents drive automobiles?

The old fart lucky the prince of darkness wasn't using one of his full
automatics. Cheney has a collection of legal full automatic weapons
including an MP5, Thompson and a Schmeisser. He was to busy way back
when he could have played with a real M-16 or an M-60 so now he lives
his second childhood.

We musn't rush to judgement on Dick Cheney. He should be treated
equally as others - hold at Guantanamo for an interminable time
pending investigation of possible charges.

"...We're told Cheney is a good shot to boot."

Not so good, evidently, that he doesn't leave an occasional cripple in the
field.

Sweet? Well, yeah, sure. But if all you're doing is popping off the
occasional friend, neighbor or hunting partner, a Remington 120 will do just
as well at a fraction of the cost. Not that there's anything wrong with
gearwhoredom.......but, I mean, let's be realistic here......it's just a
tool.......right?

Wolfgang
always remember......it's the load.....and the shooter.....that does the
bidness.
