I noticed while trying to load link in another post that word wrap had taken
the last two characters out of the string and thus I got 404 errors

For those of you that don't know it, if you use the best browser ( Firefox )
and add the Create a Tiny URL extension, you can 'one click' a tiny url
directly into your clipboard from any page with a long url string(
especially those on database driven sites that have lots of ?id=364&nonsense
=yes type of gobblygook at the end )

Even if you use IE, the tiny URL is automatically pasted into your
clipboard. Once you get the tinyURL, you only have to control-V and it
pastes it into your message. I don't even sit on the tinyURL site waiting
for the URL to be formed: I go back to the message and hit control-V when
I think its ready.

I didn't know that, but in Firefox you don't have to go to the tiny url site
.... just right click on a blank ( non linked) part of the page, select
"create a tiny url" and it's all done in the background

http://tinyurl.com/qyyrl

you get extensions after you get the browser ... the one I mentioned is
called 'Tiny URL Creator'

I also like PDF download, IE View ( opens current page in IE, for those
sites that don't understand that IE is history, and write code that only it
can deal with ), and TabMix Plus ( gives greater control over tabbed
browsing)

there are hundreds of extensions, and another nice thing is that you can add
search engines to your search box, have it default to google, but say search
a dictionary from the same box

Firefox takes some learning, but it is a much better browser ( imho, and the
ho of millions )

oh, if you visit web based forums ...learn how to open them in a side panel
by editing your bookmark

then the list of threads is in one pane and each individual post opens in
the main window ( or in individual tabs it you want ) ... this makes such
sites MUCH easier to navigate

hehe, if you fear the mind police watching us all ( they might think that
marching to your own drummer and using a better, more intelligent ( ah, less
republican?) browser is one step away from open rebellion ), you can set
Firefox to report itself to servers as any of several User Agents and "they"
will never know G

That's a cool extension, Larry.

I stumbled on this terrific site (the conceptual inverse of tiny url):

http://yep.it/go.php

It converts a short, easy-to-transmit url to a really, really long,
cumbersome one. :-)

Thanks. I use TinyURL so often I have the site in my Firefox bookmarks
pane. The extension saves a lot of clicking, cutting and pasting.....
