No trick. The symbol for 9,18,27,36,45,54,63,72 & 81
is always the same.

Hmm, pretty cool. No idea. Tried multiple numbers just in case the
symbol was the key. No, each time it popped the appropriate and
different symbol. I'm stumped.

Frank, Frank, Frank..._YOU_!? On something like this? Note that the
symbols change each time, IOW, 18, etc. is not the same symbol each time
you "try again."

It's simple. By adding the two digits and then subtracting the result,
your answer is constrained to a certain set of numbers. For example, all
the numbers in the range of 20 to 29 yield the result of 18. So, of the
set of 100 2-digit numbers, there is a set of only 10 possible results.

All the numbers in that result set are paired with the same symbol.

9 possible. I listed them in a previous post. And there
are only 90 2-digit numbers.

You're right. I looked at it for three minutes the first time. With
the change each time and the subset of viable numbers available (any
time you add the numbers of a two-digit number and then subtract that
sum from the original number, there are only 9 possible answers) after
"subtracting," you give the 9 possible answers the same symbol. It
will work every time.
