I'll fish in the rain, but I'm not a big fan of the lightning. What's a little glow in the dark? It helps you find your way out at night. My issue was timing, Hex's were coming off prior to my visit and in certain areas while I was there but things quieted down with the front that passed on Wed and night time temps into the mid-30's. As I was heading south on M-127 and saw the clouds and felt the humidity, I was trying to find a valid excuse to stay one more day ![]() A perpetual problem, no? ;-) My next door neighbor at the motel took a 28" brown on a size 16 caddis emerger (I saw the picture). So much for the *ya gotta fish the hex* theory. All the little guys I took came from either a grey-ish CDC & elk or an Adams sedge. Didn't throw anything bigger than a 14. Probably why I got only teeny fish. Pics from the PM last week: http://community.webshots.com/album/551611356LwUfOk ...heard that grey grakes were coming off all over the area, too. I wouldn't say all over the area, but they were there sporadically. I saw a few on the PM, but the guy at BBT told me that further north, the drakes were thick. Dunno, but I tied up a few... Where abouts were you on the Manistee? If I get out to Michigan next week (big "if"), I think I'll head up to the CCC bridge campground. Nice place, usually empty during the week, gorgeous stretch of river. Dan |

Nice place, usually empty during the week, gorgeous stretch of river. By next week and if the temps hold steady action should be better all up and down the streams there. The big fish were for the most part being taken on the upper Ausable towards Mio. When I am wading the Manistee I usually access it near the Hole in the Wall or Yellow Trees. I like to float it in between those points but it is one hell of a long float. If you are up to spending a little money on a guide, see if you can get someone to float you from Yellow Trees to the CCC. |
