Had a lovely day down the weir pools on Sunday.
Fishing with a feeder and float rod. Both were running s16 hooks with 3/4 pinkies. Bagged up all day with around 30+ fish, skimmers, roach, perch, chub - but nowt over a pound. Any hints on getting through the small stuff ? -- Cheerz - Brownz http://www.brownz.org/ |

Change to #10 or larger hooks, feed with bread or a mixture of bread and mud, use bread on the hook. You won't catch anywhere near as many but the average size should be much higher. Be prepared to switch swims and let the water recover after you hook one - come back in a hour or so and take the next from the swim. A typical session on the upper Stour at this time of year - when this heat drops - would be about 8 fish for 20lb using half a loaf in all. Cheerio, I'll give it a go, I've never been confident using bread, how does one bait up with it ? Do you squeeze/mould it around the shank leaving the hook point exposed, or just flake off a lump and hope it stays on the hook during the drop ? I put up a page on the topic at: http://www.fishing.casterbridge.net/bait/bread.html Come back if you have more questions - and let us know how you get on.
